Three Questions and One Word

Discipline. Joy. Believe. Faith.

These were my words for 2017.

In November 2007, I hired my first coach to help me scale my mortgage business. Her name was Tammy.  In January 2008, Tammy encouraged me to have a ‘theme for the year’.  This theme, phrase, words, or mantra (however you like to roll) would encompass what I wanted to achieve that year. This was all new to me but it seemed like a good way for me to keep the-main-thing-the-main-thing, if you know what I mean. After a bit of looking ahead into 2008, I landed on Be Bold.

Since then, I’ve had a theme for each year. Connection. Courage over comfort.  More thinking and less doing. Do the work.

The theme I choose helps me focus on what matters most. It's my go-to mantra when things get tough, and a stark reminder of what I'm striving for when I get distracted. It's my compass when I've lost my way... pointing me to that place I want to be.

Last weekend, I spent time in Las Vegas with a very small group of highly charged, very driven, authentic-to-the-bone women. These women are lead by a fierce, 'moxified' (if that’s a word) woman, Lex, dead set on all of us standing in our power, delivering the message we were meant to boldly project into the world. It was mind-blowing.

Lex challenged us to come up with one word that would anchor our year in 2018.

Oh… I’ve done this before! This should be easy!

It was not easy.

In fact, I haven’t come up with my word yet.

I haven't fully settled on a word yet because I’m still envisioning what 2018 holds for me. Where do I want to speak? How often? What does the coaching piece of my business look like? How will my work fit into my life? And a few other strategic questions that demand my attention...

Here’s what I decided… before I can come up with a theme or word for 2018, I need to settle into what the year holds for me, where I’m headed professionally, and what will keep me on the road to success and fulfillment. THEN I will come up with my word.

So I’m not going to ask you to come up with one word.

Yet.

I’m first going to challenge you with what you want for yourself, your family, and your business in the coming year. It’s a lot to think about. Where do you even start mapping out the next 365+ days? It seems a daunting task…

Let’s start by asking three simple questions:

  1. Where am I going?
  2. How am I going to get there?
  3. Why am I going there?

On December 19th, I’m walking people through these three questions. They are men and women... business owners and employees... salespeople and managers. They are people driven by their individual definition of success and they know their success is fueled by the answers to these three questions.

If you live in the Sioux Falls, SD area, I’d be honored for you to join us for this live event.

Heck… even if you don’t live near me, it would be worth the trip!

If you’re overwhelmed by complex planning processes or vague answers to broad questions, you should join me.

If you’re ready to get a handle on 2018 and map out where you want to shift, change, or grow in the coming year, you should join me.

If you’re ready to dream big, set stretch goals, and tackle what gets in the way, you should join me.

Let’s do this together.

Then we’ll set our word for 2018.
