Avis and Effie Hotchkiss were the first duo to ride coast to coast on a motorcycle. Really not a big accomplishment until you find out that it was 1915 and Effie was only 21 years old. There weren’t any interstates, Holiday Inns, or gas stations every 20 miles and young ladies didn’t do that sort of thing. It was 1915… women couldn’t even vote yet!
But Effie had a dream. A 4000-mile dream.
I’ll bet you have a dream too.
Do you think Avis and Effie set out from Brooklyn, NY early one morning thinking they would be in San Francisco, CA by nightfall? Of course not.
So why do we try to write a book in a weekend? We try to lose 15 pounds in an hour. We try to become successful overnight. We try to build lasting relationships in 30 minutes. We try to grow confident children by talking to them for 37 seconds.
Dreams worth accomplishing are made by traveling thousands of miles… one mile at a time.
One treacherous mile at a time. But when we look back over our journey we see the miles adding up. We see progress as we follow the mile markers.
Look at your map… set your course… then get there by traveling one mile at a time.
